VBE / SDVBE Certifications are a state-level and/or local-level registration depending on your location(s). VBE / SDVBE Certification is a registration designating your business at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by a veteran.

The purpose is to provide veterans with a level playing field in government and corporate contracting.
The goal is to help veteran-owned businesses thrive and promote equality for veterans in contracting.

VBE / SDVBE Eligibility

Qualification Criteria:

  • Business has to qualify for small business status.

  • At least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by one or more veterans who are U.S. citizens.

  • The top executive officer responsible for managing the daily operations must be a veteran and have experience in the business’s field of endeavor.

  • Veteran(s) must be honorably discharged and provide DD214 Certificate of Discharge.

  • Business must operate in the geographic area of the certifying agency. (may vary by location)

  • SDVOSB - Additional Requirements:

  • In addition to the above, the Veteran(s) must be certified service disabled by the V.A.

  • In the case that the service disabled veteran has a severe disability, the business can be managed by their spouse

FAQ's

How do I know if I am an eligible veteran for VBE / SDVBE Certification?
To be considered a Veteran of the United States, you must be honorably discharged (DD214) and meet one of the following requirements:
  • Served on active duty with the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard.
  • Served as a Reservist or member of the National Guard and were called to federal active duty or disabled from a disease or injury that started or got worse in the line of duty.
How do I qualify as a service disabled veteran?
Disability ratings are assigned by the V.A. to indicate the severity of someone’s disability. Eligibility does not have a minimum disability rating, so any severity from 0 to 100 can be certified if they meet the other criteria.
Is there a submission fee paid directly to the certifying agency for my VBE / SDVBE Certification?
Yes, there may be a small submission fee paid directly from you to the certifying agency in addition to our processing fee. The submission fee is typically between $250 – $300 and often waived for SDVBE.
Does my VBE / SDVBE Certification have to be renewed annually?
No, depending on the location for certification it can be from a one to five year renewal cycle.
